How do I create a website for my club?

Open Blind Valet and choose Website in the menu. The club owner can create the site; it takes a few minutes and costs nothing until you publish. Creating the site Pick a starting design. Each starter is a complete site with its pages already laid out. You can also start from scratch. Decide what's public. Choose whether tournament and league results appear on the site, how player names are shown (display name, first name + initial, or no names), whether winnings and locations are shown, and whether players appear with their photos or initials. You can change all of this later in the Privacy & data tab. Every site gets its own yourclub.blindvalet.site address, and you can connect a domain you already own later (see Can I use my own domain name for my club website?). Results only appear once you confirm that your club's members are fine with being shown publicly. Any member, tournament or league can also be hidden from the site individually. What fills itself in Once the site is connected to your club, these pages keep themselves up to date as you run tournaments in Blind Valet: Results, with the podium and the full finish order League standings, live Upcoming tournaments, with the location and a map link A scoreboard ribbon: the tournament running now, the last winner and your league leaders Make it yours Choose one of three themes and a color palette, add pages, write about the club and how to join, publish news posts and photo albums, and reword any label on the site. Every change goes into a draft that you can preview at a real address before publishing. When you publish, the previous version is kept, so you can go back to it. Building and previewing are free on any Blind Valet plan, including the free one. You only pay when you put the site online. See How does billing for a club website work?

Can I use my own domain name for my club website?

Yes. Every site has its own yourclub.blindvalet.site address, and you can also connect a domain you already own, such as poker.myclub.com or myclub.com. Connecting your domain In Website, open the domain settings and enter your domain. Blind Valet shows you the DNS records to create. Add them at your registrar, the company where you bought the domain. Click Check DNS. Changes can take up to an hour to propagate, so check again later if the records aren't found yet. | You enter | Record to create | |---|---| | A subdomain, e.g. poker.myclub.com | One CNAME record pointing to sites.blindvalet.site | | A bare domain, e.g. myclub.com | An A record for myclub.com and a CNAME record for www.myclub.com, with the values shown in the app | For a bare domain, visitors use the www address and the bare domain redirects to it. Once the records are verified and the site has an active subscription, Blind Valet connects the domain and sets up its security certificate (https) for you. Your blindvalet.site address keeps working and redirects to your own domain. Don't have a domain yet? Buy one from any registrar, then come back and enter it. The app links to a registrar if you need one. A domain can only be connected to one website at a time. You can remove it at any time, and your site goes back to its blindvalet.site address.

Can other club members help maintain our website?

Yes. The site owner can give other club members a website role so several people can maintain the site together. Website roles are separate from club roles: being a club Director doesn't give anyone access to the website, and a website role doesn't change what someone can do in the club. To add someone, open Website and go to the Team tab. They need a Blind Valet account and must be a member of one of the clubs on the site. If they leave the club, they're removed from the site's team automatically. | | Contributor | Editor | Webmaster | Owner | |---|:---:|:---:|:---:|:---:| | Write news posts | ✓ (own posts) | ✓ | ✓ | ✓ | | Publish posts | | ✓ | ✓ | ✓ | | Edit pages and drafts, publish a new version | | ✓ | ✓ | ✓ | | Change the design, settings and domain | | | ✓ | ✓ | | Put the site online or offline, manage the team | | | ✓ | ✓ | | Subscription, choose the clubs on the site, delete the site | | | | ✓ | A Contributor's posts wait for an Editor or Webmaster to publish them, which makes the role a good fit for members who want to write match reports. The owner is the person who created the site. Only the owner pays for it, so billing never moves to a team member.

How does billing for a club website work?

A club website is a separate annual subscription per site. It works with any Blind Valet plan, including the free one, so you don't need a paid app plan to have a website. When you pay Building, editing and previewing are free. You only subscribe when you want to put the site online. The price is shown in your local currency in the app and on blindvalet.com/sites, with VAT included where it applies. Only the site owner can subscribe. Team members can build and edit the site, but the subscription always stays with the owner. Renewal and cancelling The subscription renews every year. You can cancel renewal at any time from the Website settings: the site stays online until the end of the year you've paid for. If the subscription ends, the site goes offline, but nothing is deleted. Your pages, posts, photos and settings are kept as a draft, and subscribing again brings the site back as it was. One subscription covers one site. A league or an operator that runs one site for several clubs only pays once. A custom domain is included in the subscription. You only pay your registrar for the domain itself.
